Following are a few poems from bethwor(l)ds: 20 years of poetry.
Nature of Music
Strains of music fill the air,
painting pictures of serenity
on the faces of all those near.
Peaceful memories fill my mind.
Images of verdant hills,
snug, thatched-roof cottages
with smoke curling upwards
from field stone chimneys.
Violin strings etch hard lines,
make winding roadways
that lead to the forest,
to the river, to the sea.
Soft bowing mutes the alacrity,
transforms sharpness into
the billowing pleasantness of
impressionistic harmony.
Harp strings awaken the senses.
Flowers in bloom,
birds fluttering in the trees,
the earth begins to sing.
Gentle guitar notes
make even the clouds smile.
Rocks soften at the sounds,
cheerful and light and gay.
Strains of music fill the air,
painting pictures of serenity
on the faces of all those near.
Peaceful memories fill my mind.
Music of Nature
The most beautiful music I've ever heard
is the sound of the rain on the leaves and grass.
Or the sound of the rushing waters as they hurry on
towards the river, towards the sea.
The most beautiful song I've ever heard
is the sound of the cricket by night and the bird by day.
Or perhaps it's the sound of a purring cat
who is happy that I have finally come home to feed him.
The symphonies of nature are the sweetest.
The sounds of the earth are the notes I hear in the quiet.
Be still and listen to the orchestra.
They're tuning their instruments now.
They're almost ready.
Ah, Spring
Ah, Spring at last,
season poised between winter and summer,
gentle pendulum swinging to and fro
above this happy medium.
Gone now the chilling winds of winter.
Not yet the scorching rays of summer's sun.
Ah, Gentle Spring,
whose steady, soaking rains,
whose warm sunshine
make way for the greening of the earth.
Thank goodness for confused Spring.
One day echoing winter,
the next foretelling summer.
Ah, Spring,
season of change,
moment of rebirth.
Sleep Dances Away
blustery November morning
brought my day to an early start
winds howl, whipping around the yard,
battering windows, ravaging trees,
pushing leaves across the grass
chimes chatter in the wake
of the wind’s noisy clamor
pinwheels spin tirelessly,
creating a hypnotic effect on my brain,
restlessness settles in my bones,
while sleep dances away from me
out into the streets below.
Tryst
Heartfelt laughter
floating on the breeze;
Nature's answer
whispers in the trees.
Soft clouds drifting
gently `cross the sky;
Shadows slipping
slowly towards the night.
Blackbird landing
on the window sill;
Night birds singing,
dark moves further still.
Sunset painting,
colors orange and red;
Last light fading,
sneaking off to bed.
Stars appear now,
decorate the night;
Moonlight knows how,
makes the lovers sigh.
Walking slowly,
hand is held in hand;
Whisper softly,
lovers understand.
Vows exchanging,
seal them with a kiss;
Daylight dawning
on the lovers' bliss.
